We began over 25 years ago as a small family business in Hyde, founded by husband and wife team Jack and Marilyn Hyman, alongside their son David. In those early days, our little shop was filled with sofas, chairs, and dining sets waiting to be given a second life. We specialised in sofa and chair reupholstery, with the occasional car seat repair thrown in, work that taught us the value of craftsmanship, patience, and pride in every detail.
After a decade of restoring furniture for families throughout the UK, we saw a growing need in another area: caravan and motorhome reupholstery. More and more people were looking to refresh their home‑on‑wheels rather than replace it, and we realised our skills could make a real difference. That’s when we expanded into touring caravans, motorhomes, and static caravans, bringing the same care and quality we’d always delivered in the home, to life on the road.
As demand grew, so did we. We outgrew our little Hyde shop and moved into a much larger unit in Middleton, Manchester, where we now store our customers’ cushions, sofas, chairs, and everything in between. From there, our team carefully reupholsters each piece before delivering and fitting it back into place, making the process seamless from start to finish.
What hasn’t changed is our commitment to service. We’ve always been proud to offer a nationwide service, with free pickup and dismantling, as well as free delivery and installation anywhere in the UK. Sadly, Jack passed away, but his legacy of craftsmanship and care lives on. Today, A1 Caravan Upholstery is run by Marilyn and David, who continue to grow the business while keeping its family values at the heart of everything we do.
